For a garden under 300 m², aiming for a robot rated between 300 and 600 m² is the basic rule. Our best overall choice is the Stihl iMOW 3 EVO RTK at 799 € (8.4/10), with 5 years warranty and 45 % slope. Budget capped at 700 €: the Stihl iMOW 3 with wire (699 €, 8.2/10) remains unbeatable in reliability. Adjacent garden or critical noise: the Segway i105E at 799 € drops to 54 dB. Premium RTK for large areas is largely overkill under 300 m².

Verdict at a glance: our 3 selection pillars

For a garden under 300 m², three models stand out according to use.

Best overall durable choice: Stihl iMOW 3 EVO RTK (799 €, 8.4/10). Rated 500 m², i.e. 1.67 times the target, it offers a comfortable margin without being oversized. Its wire-free RTK GNSS navigation, 45 % slope and German build make it the most versatile choice in the segment. The 5-year warranty sets it apart from all its direct competitors.

Best value for money under 700 €: Stihl iMOW 3 with wire (699 €, 8.2/10). Same chassis, same reliability, perimeter wire navigation. For a simple garden without complex obstacles, it delivers 80 to 90 % of the RTK model's performance for 100 € less. Laying the wire takes 4 to 6 hours, but the investment remains justified over time.

Best quiet model for adjacent gardens: Segway i105E (799 €, 8.3/10). At 54 dB, it is the only model in our selection to drop below the 55 dB threshold. The other four picks run between 59 and 62 dB. For a garden in a dense residential area, this difference is noticeable on a daily basis.

The 5 picks in this selection are all under 800 € and cover 4 distinct brands: Stihl, Segway, Kress and Worx.

Why premium RTK is overkill under 300 m²

The current SERP systematically pushes RTK models rated 800 to 1 000 m² towards owners of small gardens. This positioning deserves to be questioned.

On an area under 300 m², centimetre-precise RTK brings little concrete added value. A wire robot mows in pseudo-random strips that fully cover the area in 60 to 90 minutes. The lawn is mown just as evenly as with an RTK, without the centimetre positioning precision changing anything about the final visual result.

The RTK premium represents 200 to 400 € more than an equivalent wire model. This difference is mainly justified by a single concrete advantage: avoiding laying the perimeter wire. For typical 300 m² with a few obstacles, this laying takes 4 to 6 hours. On a simple rectangular garden, 2 to 3 hours are enough. The question is therefore: is it worth 200 to 400 € more to save half a day of installation?

The answer depends on the profile. For a garden with numerous obstacles, complex borders or irregular geometry, RTK genuinely simplifies setup. For a square or rectangular garden with few obstacles, the wire remains the most economical and reliable long-term solution.

Sub-800 € RTK models such as the Stihl iMOW 3 EVO or the Segway i105E offer a correct compromise: RTK for convenience, accessible price for the budget. They avoid the trap of 1 099 € models rated 800 to 1 000 m², which charge unnecessary autonomy and power for 300 m² in reality.

For a truly tight budget, the Stihl iMOW 3 with wire at 699 € still delivers 80 to 90 % of an RTK's performance for half the premium. This is a rational trade-off that the current SERP does not present.

To go further on this subject, our analysis RTK versus perimeter wire: the technical match details the differences in behaviour under real conditions.

Our selection method

We applied three successive filtering criteria to our robot mower database.

Criterion 1: manufacturer surface between 300 and 600 m², i.e. 1 to 2 times the real 300 m² target. This margin is tighter than on large-area guides, because sub-300 m² models are rare and often limited in slope or autonomy. A robot rated 300 m² operates at full load on our target, with no safety margin. A robot rated 600 m² offers comfortable operation without being oversized. Beyond 600 m², you pay for unnecessary watt-hours.

Criterion 2: public price ≤ 800 € incl. VAT, charging station included, no mandatory subscription. Some competing models charge monthly cloud services. We excluded them.

Criterion 3: Mowy Lab rating ≥ 8.0/10, established on our internal multi-criteria grid (navigation, noise, reliability, after-sales service, surface/price ratio).

Result: 12 eligible robots in our database, 5 retained across 4 distinct brands (Stihl, Segway, Kress, Worx). Mowy Lab is not affiliated with any of these brands and receives no sponsorship. We do not include Mammotion in this top, unlike the majority of current search results, which push the YUKA Mini 2 (rated 800 to 1 000 m²) towards gardens under 300 m², i.e. an oversizing of 3 to 4 times the real target.

Our detailed selection

#1 Stihl iMOW 3 EVO: best overall durable RTK choice (799 €, 8.4/10)

The Stihl iMOW 3 EVO is the wire-free model in the iMOW 3 range, launched in 2025. It combines RTK GNSS navigation, 45 % slope and German finish in a compact format suited to 300 m² gardens with a comfortable margin.

Its key figures:

  • Rated surface: 500 m² (1.67× the target)
  • Max slope: 45 %
  • Navigation: RTK GNSS
  • Cutting width: 20 cm
  • Cycle runtime: 60 min (50 Wh)
  • Noise: 60 dB
  • Waterproofing: IPX5
  • Multi-zones: 3
  • Year: 2025

Why we retained it: On a garden under 300 m², the 1.67× margin guarantees the robot never runs at full load, which extends battery life. Wire-free RTK GNSS navigation eliminates wire laying and simplifies obstacle management. The 45 % slope covers the most common sloping gardens. Stihl's 5-year warranty is the longest in the segment, a concrete advantage on a device used daily for several seasons.

What you have to accept: The 500 m² rated surface is the lowest of the three RTK picks in this selection. For a garden approaching 300 m² with numerous obstacles, the margin remains sufficient but less generous than the Segway i105E or the Kress KR160E. Noise at 60 dB is acceptable but not exceptional.

Who it is for: Owner of a 150 to 300 m² residential garden with slopes, who wants to avoid wire laying and prioritises long-term reliability over entry price.

#2 Segway i105E: best quiet model for adjacent gardens (799 €, 8.3/10)

The Segway i105E is the compact model in the Navimow range, positioned on medium-sized gardens with particular attention to sound level. Its 54 dB makes it the quietest robot in this selection.

Its key figures:

  • Rated surface: 600 m² (2.0× the target)
  • Max slope: 45 %
  • Navigation: RTK GNSS
  • Cutting width: 18 cm
  • Cycle runtime: 60 min (64 Wh)
  • Noise: 54 dB
  • Waterproofing: IPX6
  • Multi-zones: 3
  • Year: 2024

Why we retained it: The 6 dB gap between the Segway i105E (54 dB) and the other picks (59 to 62 dB) is audible: 6 dB represents roughly half the perceived sound energy. For an adjacent garden where neighbours are close, this difference changes daily comfort in the evening or at weekends. IPX6 (resistance to water jets) exceeds the IPX5 standard of the other picks, an advantage for exposed gardens. The 64 Wh battery is the most generous of the three RTK picks.

What you have to accept: The Segway i105E does not have AI vision or advanced obstacle detection on this version. The 60-minute cycle is identical to the other picks, meaning frequent returns to the station on a full day of mowing. The 18 cm cutting width is the narrowest of the RTK picks.

Who it is for: Owner of a 200 to 300 m² garden in a dense residential area, sensitive to noise, who wants a wire-free installation and above-average rain resistance.

#3 Kress RTKn KR160E: best accessible RTK with GPS anti-theft (799 €, 8.4/10)

The Kress RTKn KR160E is an RTK GNSS robot launched in 2025, positioned as the cheapest alternative in the wire-free RTK segment with a 90-minute cycle runtime, the longest in this selection.

Its key figures:

  • Rated surface: 600 m² (2.0× the target)
  • Max slope: 40 %
  • Navigation: RTK GNSS
  • Cutting width: 20 cm
  • Cycle runtime: 90 min (80 Wh)
  • Noise: 59 dB
  • Waterproofing: IPX5
  • Multi-zones: 4
  • Year: 2025

Why we retained it: The Kress RTKn KR160E is the only pick in this selection to integrate native GPS anti-theft, a useful feature for gardens accessible from the street or open residential areas. Its 90-minute runtime (80 Wh) is the longest in the selection, reducing the number of daily cycles on 300 m². Management of 4 distinct zones is the most flexible in the group. OTA updates allow firmware improvement without physical intervention.

What you have to accept: This version of the KR160E does not have advanced obstacle detection (OAS). On a garden with toys, tools or animals, this must be taken into account. The maximum slope of 40 % is lower than the 45 % of the Stihl iMOW 3 EVO and the Segway i105E. The 20 cm cutting width remains in the lower average for a robot rated 600 m².

Who it is for: Owner of a 200 to 300 m² garden with several distinct zones, concerned about anti-theft security, who wants maximum runtime per cycle without exceeding 800 €.

#4 Stihl iMOW 3: best value for money with wire under 700 € (699 €, 8.2/10)

The Stihl iMOW 3 is the perimeter-wire version of the same chassis as the EVO model. It shares the same finish, the same 5-year warranty and the same 40 % slope, for 100 € less.

Its key figures:

  • Rated surface: 500 m² (1.67× the target)
  • Max slope: 40 %
  • Navigation: perimeter wire
  • Cutting width: 20 cm
  • Cycle runtime: 60 min (50 Wh)
  • Noise: 60 dB
  • Waterproofing: IPX5
  • Multi-zones: 2
  • Year: 2025

Why we retained it: On a garden under 300 m² with simple geometry, perimeter-wire navigation is as effective as RTK for the final mowing result. The Stihl iMOW 3 inherits the German build of the range, the 5-year warranty and a 40 % slope that covers the vast majority of residential gardens. At 699 €, it is the cheapest pick in the selection alongside Worx, but with a 500 m² rated surface versus 300 m² for the Worx, giving it a superior comfort margin.

What you have to accept: Perimeter-wire laying is unavoidable: allow 4 to 6 hours for a 300 m² garden with obstacles. Management of only 2 zones limits flexibility for gardens with complex layouts. No intelligent obstacle detection.

Who it is for: Owner of a 150 to 300 m² garden with simple geometry, who accepts half a day of installation in exchange for maximum reliability and a price contained at 699 €.

#5 Worx Landroid Vision Cloud WR303E: best AI vision without installation (699 €, 8.0/10)

The Worx Landroid Vision Cloud WR303E is the only pick in this selection to navigate by camera and artificial intelligence, without wire or RTK. It is also the only one rated exactly 300 m², making it the most precisely sized model for the target.

Its key figures:

  • Rated surface: 300 m² (1.0× the target)
  • Max slope: 35 %
  • Navigation: vision (camera + AI)
  • Cutting width: 18 cm
  • Cycle runtime: 60 min (50 Wh)
  • Noise: 62 dB
  • Waterproofing: IPX5
  • Multi-zones: 1
  • Year: 2025

Why we retained it: AI vision navigation is the only technology that requires neither wire nor RTK antenna nor prolonged clear sky view. For an urban garden with partial tree cover, this is a real advantage. At 699 €, it is the lowest entry price to access AI vision in the robot mower segment. Camera-based obstacle detection reduces the risk of collision with objects left on the lawn.

What you have to accept: The 300 m² rated surface is exactly the target, with no safety margin. On a garden close to 300 m² with numerous obstacles, the robot will work at full capacity. The maximum slope of 35 % is the lowest in the selection. Management of a single zone limits complex layouts. Noise at 62 dB is the highest in the group.

Who it is for: Owner of an urban garden or courtyard under 250 m², without marked slopes, who wants immediate installation without wire or RTK setup.

How to choose by garden profile

Urban or city garden (courtyard, enlarged balcony, under 200 m²)

For an area under 200 m², two picks are largely sufficient. The Worx Landroid Vision Cloud WR303E (300 m² rated, 699 €) is the most suitable: immediate wire-free installation, camera obstacle detection, compact format. The Stihl iMOW 3 with wire (500 m² rated, 699 €) remains a solid alternative if the garden is rectangular and without complex obstacles. Its 1.67× margin guarantees comfortable operation on a small area.

Residential garden (200 to 300 m² with trees, terrace)

As soon as the area approaches 300 m² with obstacles (borders, path, terrace), a safety margin on the rated surface becomes useful. The Stihl iMOW 3 EVO RTK (500 m², 799 €) and the Kress RTKn KR160E (600 m², 799 €) offer this margin without wire to lay. The Kress adds GPS anti-theft and 4 zones, useful for a garden with a layout in several distinct spaces.

Adjacent garden sensitive to noise

The Segway i105E at 54 dB stands out clearly from the other four picks, which run between 59 and 62 dB. For an adjacent garden where neighbours are less than 5 metres away, this gap is noticeable, especially during evening or weekend mowing. If noise is the main criterion, the Segway i105E is the only rational choice in this selection. To go further on navigation differences, our complete guide to navigation systems details the behaviour of each technology.

Steep slope terrain (40 % and more)

Two picks handle 45 %: the Stihl iMOW 3 EVO and the Segway i105E. The Kress RTKn KR160E and the Stihl iMOW 3 top out at 40 %, which covers the vast majority of residential gardens. The Worx Landroid Vision Cloud WR303E is limited to 35 %: to be avoided on markedly sloping terrain. For gardens with a slope over 40 %, the choice is reduced to the first two picks.

Budget and warranty

At 699 €, the Stihl iMOW 3 and the Worx WR303E are the two entry-level options. The Stihl benefits from the brand's 5-year warranty, a concrete advantage over time. The three picks at 799 € (Stihl iMOW 3 EVO, Segway i105E, Kress KR160E) add wire-free RTK for 100 € more. The Stihl after-sales network is the densest in France, which facilitates warranty interventions.

What if your garden exceeds 300 m²

If your real area is between 300 and 600 m², all the picks in this selection remain relevant. The Segway i105E and the Kress RTKn KR160E, both rated 600 m², offer a correct margin. The Stihl iMOW 3 EVO and the Stihl iMOW 3 (500 m² rated) will also work, with less margin.

If your garden is between 600 and 800 m², you need to move up to the next category. The Stihl iMOW 4 RTK or the Segway i108E are the references to consider. Our guide to the best robot mowers under 1 000 € for 750 m² covers this segment in detail with the same selection method.

Beyond 800 m², the models in this selection are clearly undersized. A new category of robots is required, with 100 Wh+ batteries, 22 to 28 cm cutting widths and prices generally exceeding 1 000 €. Our 1 000 m² guide treats this segment separately.

FAQ

What is the best robot mower for a small garden in 2026?

For a garden under 300 m², our best overall choice is the Stihl iMOW 3 EVO RTK at 799 € (Mowy Lab rating 8.4/10) with its 5-year warranty, 45 % slope and German build. If the budget is capped at 700 €, the Stihl iMOW 3 with wire at 699 € (8.2/10) remains unbeatable in long-term reliability with the same manufacturer qualities, excluding RTK navigation.

Do you need an RTK robot under 300 m²?

Not necessarily. On small areas, centimetre-precise RTK brings little added value. The RTK premium represents 200 to 400 € more than an equivalent wire model and mainly serves to avoid wire laying, which takes 4 to 6 hours for 300 m². For a tight budget, a wire robot such as the Stihl iMOW 3 offers 80 to 90 % of an RTK's performance for a significantly lower investment.

What budget should you plan for a small-garden robot mower?

Allow 599 to 799 € for a quality new model. Under 600 €, you fall on basic Worx Landroid S models (rating 7.8 to 7.9/10) that remain acceptable but noisy at 67 dB. Between 700 and 800 €, you access wire-free RTK and Stihl and Segway models that are clearly superior in quietness, reliability and warranty. Beyond 800 €, the premium is no longer justified for a garden under 300 m².

Is the Mammotion YUKA Mini 2 a good choice for 300 m²?

No, it is oversized. The YUKA Mini 2 is rated 800 to 1 000 m² depending on the version, i.e. 3 to 4 times the real 300 m² target. At an entry price of 1 099 €, you pay for unnecessary watt-hours and autonomy for this area. For 300 m², prefer the Stihl iMOW 3 EVO at 799 € or the Worx Landroid Vision Cloud WR303E at 699 €, precisely sized for the target.

How long does it take to install a wire robot mower on 300 m²?

Allow 4 to 6 hours for a 300 m² garden with a few obstacles (borders, path, terrace). On a simple rectangular garden, 2 to 3 hours are enough. Installation by an authorised Stihl or Husqvarna dealer costs 150 to 250 € including installation warranty, a reasonable option for beginner DIYers who want to avoid wiring errors.

Which robot mower for a balcony or terrace converted to lawn?

Under 100 m² (roof terrace, micro-garden), the Worx Landroid Vision Cloud WR303E at 699 € is the most suitable: wire-free vision navigation, 18 cm cutting width, IPX5. The Stihl iMOW 3 with wire remains possible but requires fixing the wire to the substrate, which is more complex on paving or artificial surfaces. RTK models require a sufficient clear sky view to acquire the GNSS signal, which can be problematic under a pergola or covered roof terrace.
